01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Peering into a glass showcase beneath a covered shopping arcade and waiting for each piece to be wrapped by hand carries a distinct sense of nostalgia. Situated along the Joyful Minowa shopping arcade in Minamisenju, Arakawa Ward, Ōmura Bakery is a straightforward neighborhood bakery packed with savory stuffed rolls and sweet buns.
Among the savory buns lining the left side of the showcase, the croquette bun is an enduring local favorite. A whole croquette and sauce are set directly into a split bread roll reminiscent of a coppepan, balancing soft bread with savory moisture. The savory selection is diverse, extending to ham katsu buns with the salty, nostalgic bite of thin-sliced cutlet, hearty tonkatsu buns that spill out past the bread, and yakisoba rolls focused purely on noodle filling.
For something sweet, options include traditional custard cream buns with straightforward sweetness alongside classic sweet red bean fillings, both smooth koshian and textured tsubuan. You will also spot less common variations, such as buns filled with pleasantly fragrant plum bean paste (ume-an) or simple milk raisin rolls, making it easy to assemble a varied bag of pastries.
All items are strictly for takeout, with no eat-in seating or customer restrooms, and payments are accepted in cash only. The shop opens in the morning from 9:00, making it an easy stop to pick up a quick snack or meal while browsing the shopping street.
